The 2012 MLB Draft will take place on Monday, June 4th at 7PM. The Red Sox will have three picks in the first 37 (21, 31, 37)—a pretty good position for a team that's (usually) in the playoff hunt. Most Mock Drafts think Boston is likely to pick at least two high school players and a possible high-impact college athlete. But, to be honest, it's a total crap shoot guessing who will go where.
MLB Draft Insider thinks the Carmine Hose will select Stanford's Stephen Piscotty first—a high on-base percentage 3B/LF with speed and an solid throwing arm. In 153 at-bats this year, he compiled a .389 OBP. Next, they see Boston selecting another third baseman, a North Carolina High Schooler named Corey Seager. He's 6'3", 205 and bats left-handed. Finally, at number 34, they believe Boston will pick Florida High Schooler Nick Travieso—a right-handed starter who is 6'3" and 210.
My MLB Draft takes another view. They see Boston's #21 pick as High School shortstop Tanner Rahier out of Palm Desert, California. Rahier is 6'2", 205. With the next pick, they see Boston going with Matthew Smoral, a LHP out of Solon High School in Ohio. Smoral is a monster—6'8" and 225. Finally, they see the Red Sox selecting Mitch Gueller—a High School RHP and OF from Washington state. Gueller is 6'3", 205.
