Clay Buchholz tossed 125 pitches en route to this fourth career shutout—
a 7-0 blanking of the fist-place Baltimore Orioles. Buchholz was smooth and confident throughout—tantalizing hitters all night with a devastating curveball. The righty gave up just four hits, walked one and struck out six. It was the kind of dominating performance we all expected from Buchholz after his amazing rookie season. He may have found his groove again, delivering his third straight quality outing.
The offense was keyed by a 3-4 night by Adrian Gonzalez—including a two-run double in the first to open the scoring. Daniel Nava nailed a clutch double on the way to a 2-4 night with two RBIs. The Red Sox sit just over the .500 mark again, and are just three games back of Baltimore. Stephen Strasburg and the Washington Nationals come in Friday.
