We are speechless. We are without speech. The Red Sox found another improbable way to lose a game—in 17 innings with Darnell McDonald taking the loss. Hours after Clay Buchholz was miserable in his "must win" start (5 earned runs on 3 home runs), and after 7 relievers pitched brilliantly for the team,
McDonald gave up a three-run jack that ended things (9-6) as we all knew they would end in this incredible year. Lost in translation was a game-tying grand slam by rookie Will Middlebrooks and a great two-inning performance by Alfredo Aceves. None of it mattered. This team seems destined for unimaginable ignominy in 2012.
