A Look Back At A Better 'Ocho de Mayo'

Things are pretty dismal for those of us in The Nation on this May 8, 2012. The Carmine Hose had a good win last night, and a new star may be emerging on the horizon in Will Middlebrooks. But, on balance, this is not a good Ocho de Mayo. So, as a public service to our readers, here's a photo from May 8, 2005—when the glow from 2004 was still alive. Two of the heroes of the World Championship are depicted in the photo—Bill Mueller at bat and Mark Bellhorn in the on-deck circle. It's from the second game of a day-night doubleheader (Sox won game one, but lost this game to the Mariners). David Ortiz went 3-4 with 3 RBIs and clouted his 9th HR of the year. Good times. By the way, the weather on May 8, 2005 kinda looks like the weather today. The more things change, the more they stay the same.
