Remember when an ace—a
real ace—viewed three runs of support as more than enough to win a game? Seems like a pipe dream, doesn't it? Josh Beckett got three runs of support tonight, but gave up four, leading to
a 7-3 loss to the Tigers. Staked to a 2-0 lead, he allowed it to get to 3-2 in favor of Detroit. When his teammates tied it up at three, oops, 4-3 Detroit. Beckett gave up 10 hits in 7 innings—not a good prescription for victory. Jarrod Saltalamacchia homered and drove in another run, but it wasn't enough to prevent the end of a three-game winning streak. Remember when aces stopped
losing streaks, not
winning streaks? Dream on.
