Since the moment Bobby V’s press conference ended, one of the biggest questions asked was what the rotation would look like. Well, Bobby might have just given us our long awaited answer. According to the new Red Sox foul line reporter Jenny Dell via Twitter, the rotation is: Lester, Beckett, Buchholz, Doubront, and Bard. From a quick reaction to the rotation, I felt a little more confidence than I was expecting.
We all know the drama with Bard, so to me that felt like a sign of a relief that he had a guaranteed spot at the five. The one starter that caught my eye was Doubront, because going into this announcement of the rotation; I would have banked on Alfredo Aceves taking that spot. According to MLB.com, Bobby V said he did speak to Aceves prior to releasing the rotation, and said he was “unhappy” with the news. But for most who didn’t pay attention to Doubront's spring, he was 1-0 in 4 appearances with 16.2 innings under his belt and a 2.70 ERA. Hopefully, Aceves takes his bullpen role and uses it to the best of his ability, but from an FN Youth Board perspective, it feels like this rotation came out better than expected.
