After three games with almost nothing to be encouraged about,
the Red Sox turned the tables and delivered solid pitching and comeback heroics to pull out a 4-2 victory over the Jays north of the border. Felix Doubront delivered five solid innings (albeit with a high pitch count), yielding just two runs—one on a mis-alignment by Salty on a play at the plate. But perhaps more impressive than the starting performance was three shutout innings by Scott Atchison, who mowed down the Jays with quick precision.
On the offensive side, it was almost all Dustin Pedroia—who homered to cut the lead in half and then led off the ninth with a ringing double down the left-field line. A passed ball later, the Muddy Chicken was plated by a Gonzo sac fly. Two more runs scored on a Sweeney hit and a wild pitch. Then, Alfredo Aceves—after achieving infinity ERA status—shut the door in the ninth in order. And so, there will be no 0-6 start to
this season.
