Although manager Bobby Valentine is not expressly naming an Opening Day starter, some of the banter he's been engaging in may hint at his choice: Jon Lester. WEEI.com's Rob Bradford suggests that Lester—the 2011 Opening Day starter—is not perceived to have dropped off significantly during the year (15-9, 3.47 ERA), and thus Bobby V. may think he "deserves" to be the 2012 choice once again.A lot of this is political, of course, and—in the grand scheme of things—rather petty. But this crop of Red Sox starting pitchers have egos the size of a bucket of Popeye's chicken. Our choice would be Lester, simply because he's been the most consistent pitcher over the last few years.
