Theo's Compensation Gets Lit Up In Loss

Chris Carpenter—the "significant" compensation for Theo Epstein—was pummelled for four earned runs in one inning of work in a 9-3 loss to the Cardinals today.

The three hour and forty minute rain-delayed contest saw Josh Beckett toss three scoreless innings—while every other Sox pitcher yielded runs. On the offensive side of the ledger, Jose Iglesias (1 for 4) tripled and knocked in three runs.

Iglesisas may be showing Bobby Valentine just enough with the bat to justify his being awarded the starting shortstop job. Let's hope.
