Sox Will Be In On Cuban Free Agent

According to sources cited by WEEI.com's Alex Speier, the Red Sox will pursue 19-year old Cuban Jorge Soler. The infielder is said to possess 30-plus HR power and will be highly sought after by other MLB clubs—most notably, Theo Epstein's Cubs. Teams will be falling all over themselves to sign the kid before July—after which new rules restrict how much teams can pay for international free agents. As we first reported in early January, this move is in line with the new austerity plan at Yawkey Way—since Soler will still be far cheaper than the other top Cuban player, Yoenis Cespedes, was to Oakland.
