According to a report in the San Francisco Chronicle, the Oakland/San Jose A's are about to sign former Boston outfielder Manny Ramirez as their Designated Hitter. While several teams have shown interest in Manny (even with his mandated 50-game suspension), the A's have been the only team to make a serious run.
A's General Manager Billy Beane has completely made over the team—jettisoning Andrew Bailey, Trevor Cahill, Gio Gonzalez and Ryan Sweeney. But, until the move to a new ballpark in San Jose, he needs to keep interest alive. So, he has singed Cuban phenom Yoenis Cespedes. Manny, would, of course, add to the sideshow excitement.
