The Babe At One Hundred Seventeen

Today is Babe Ruth's 117th birthday. For too long, he has been the exclusive preserve of They Who Shall Not Be Named. It's time that Red Sox fans proudly rediscovered Ruth in Boston—which involved incredible pitching performances as well as the beginning stages of his prolific hitting career. In six years with the Red Sox, Ruth won 89 games and sported an ERA of 2.19 along with a 1.142 WHIP. In the post-season he was 3-0 with a 0.87 ERA. He won three World Series Championships with Boston—one fewer than he won in New York.

With the upcoming Fenway Park Centennial, it's a good time for the NOG to recognize Ruth's achievements with the Red Sox. Since his time in Boston pre-dated player numbers, we should retire a "BABE" plaque in right field. He came to the majors with us first, and he achieved great things here. Let's honor that.
