Joe Torre has resigned from his position as MLB's Executive Vice President for Baseball Operations to free himself up for a shot at owning the Los Angeles Dodgers (of Los Angeles). Torre spent the last year as the Commissioner's "watchdog" for on-field discipline and umpire-related issues. He will be joining a group of investors that want to buy the Dodgers from Boston's own Frank McCourt. The former Yankee skipper leaves the position (on an interim basis, at least) to Joe Garagiola, Jr. Torre is seen to have done a pretty good job in his short tenure in the position.
