Sox Compiling Picks In 2012 Amateur Draft

As Brian MacPherson of the Providence Journal points out, the Red Sox are setting themselves up well for the upcoming amateur draft. Boston will pick four times in the first sixty slots—giving the team a big advantage over some division rivals (NYY: 1 pick; RAYS: 1 pick). The Red Sox have a good history of finding gems in the draft—although new financial rules will restrict them from spending as much as they have in the past on their selections. In any event, BenCher has a good opportunity to re-stock a farm system that has been somewhat depleted by recent (very good) trades.
