While Bud Selig is delaying the decision until as late as March, Buster Olney reports that
most baseball sources expect the MLB playoffs to expand to ten teams this year. This, of course, would have a huge impact on teams jostling for the extra Wild Card spot in each league. Under the new format, the two Wild Card entrants would engage in a one-game playoff to determine who goes forward. The obvious intent is to put a premium on winning divisions. It's not the perfect system, but, if it's going to happen, Bud should make the commitment
now, not in March.
