Casey Fossum Was Helpful In Sox Title Runs
Casey Fossum turns 34 today (hey, we're searching for some Red Sox news here, so back off). Why should we care? Because back on November 28th, 2003, Fossum was part of the "Great Thanksgiving Day Swindle" that re-netted Curt Schilling (pictured at right with a young fan) for the Red Sox. Fossum, somebody named Michael Goss, Brandon Lyon and Jorge De La Rosa were shipped off to the desert after Theo Epstein sweet-talked the Schilling family over turkey dinner. Lyon had a decent post-Boston career, but seems to have imploded lately (11.48 ERA for the Astros in 2011). De La Rosa is still a decent starter—but Schilling was the catalyst that made Boston a legitimate title contender. So, on a day when there is no other Red Sox news, let's salute Casey Fossum.
