Feeling he was blindsided by the Globe revelations of his use of pain medication, Francona also alluded to the smear campaign that accompanied his departure, saying, "someone cut my legs out from under me." With his typical sense of class, he refused to comment on the hiring of Bobby Valentine. But the overwhelming feeling you're left with from this interview is sadness.
