According to a 'Tweet" by the Globe's Nick Cafardo,
the Red Sox will make an attempt to trade for A's closer (and former Rookie Of The Year) Andrew Bailey. This would avoid spending heavily for a closer in the free agent market—and would dovetail with reports of moving Bard into the rotation. The extra cash could go toward signing David Ortiz to a two-year deal. The only hitch could be the relative paucity of Red Sox prospects—although we're sure Billy Beane can find a few. Also, Beane has always (since Moneyball days) lusted after Kevin Youkilis.
