Ken Rosenthal Of FOX Sports is reporting that
the Red Sox have traded Jed Lowrie and Kyle Weiland for 26-year old RHP Mark Melancon the "sort of" closer for the Houston Astros. Originally property of the Yankees, he made his major league debut against Boston, going 2 scoreless innings in 2009. Melancon closed for the Astros last year after Brandon Lyon (an ex-Red Sox) got hurt. Losing Lowrie means it's all the more critical that the Red Sox get someone to back up Scutaro at shortstop. All in all, a good trade in our view.
