Sox Should Nab Owings If Non-Tendered
How cool would it be for the Red Sox to have the best-hitting pitcher in baseball—and one who's a pretty good hurler to boot? If the Arizona Diamondbacks non-tender Micah Owings today, the Red Sox should jump on him. He had a great 2011, going 8-0 with 3.57 ERA in 63 innings out of the bullpen (giving up only 56 hits). Plus, in 203 career at-bats, he's hitting .286 with 9 home runs and 35 RBIs. His slugging percentage is .507! The Red Sox will face way more inter-league games starting in 2013, and could use a guy like this. Wouldn't it be great to be able to leave an effective pitcher in for another inning or two when you know he's got a pretty good shot of getting a hit? Or use him as a decent pinch-hitter off the bench? Something tells me Bobby Valentine (a prototypical NL-style manager) would love that kind of versatility. Go get him, BenCher.
