For some unknown reason, BenCher and
the Red Sox are still interested in perennially mediocre left-handed starter Joe Saunders. The Diamondbacks non-tendered Saunders, and the Reds and Tigers are now "competition" for his services. Saunders will be only 31 this coming June, but his career ERA of 4.16 and sub-.500 record over the last three seasons (30-47) make him a southpaw version of John Lackey. He's given up 55 more hits than innings pitched over seven seasons, sporting a WHIP of 1.374. Boston should resist the "temptation" to overspend for this guy.
