Red Sox Back On The Gio Gonzalez Trail

With the Red Sox in 'Cheap Mode' (no matter what they say to the contrary), they are again seriously considering a trade for A's starter Gio Gonzalez. They were in the hunt a few weeks back, but—as with every other deal—they backed away. Gonzalez, a 26-year old lefty, was 16-12 with a stellar 3.12 ERA last year. He gave up only 175 hits in 202 innings and fanned 175. He did walk 91 batters, which gave him a 1.317 WHIP. Boston could part with one of their young outfielders—Kalish or Reddick—and, perhaps, Ryan Lavarnway. Oakland, typically, is asking for the moon—they demanded Mike Stanton from the Marlins for Gonzalez. A rotation of Beckett, Lester, Buchholz, Gonzalez and Bard would be among the best in baseball.
