Non-Tenders Can Be "Tough" For Some Teams
Today is Non-Tender Day in Major League Baseball. No, it has nothing to do with tough beef jerky, although teams have made some pretty jerky moves on this day over the years. As the Globe's Peter Abraham reminds us, the Red Sox scooped up David Ortiz (Twins) and Alfredo Aceves (Evil Ones) from non-tender scrap heaps. The Red Sox have to make tender decisions on nine players by midnight tonight—ironically one of them is Alfredo Aceves. Other key players are Jacoby Ellsbury (who will get a whopper of a raise) and Daniel Bard (who is being asked to stretch out for a possible starting role). And you thought it was just another boring no-baseball Monday. Hey, did you hear about Ryan Braun?
