With the word that Michael Cuddyer is likely returning to the Twins (or going somewhere else that isn't Boston), it's clear that there are no "likely suspects" to fill the black hole in right field. We'll give BenCher and the NOG the benefit of the doubt that all this "poor-mouth" talk is just so much talk. To prove our faith in them, they have to do one simple thing: go out and sign five-tool Cuban defector Yoenis Cespedes. The fleet, power-hitting 26 year-old can play all three outfield positions. So what, you say?
Here's our proposal. Move Carl Crawford to right field—a spot where he can better utilize his speed and quickness on defense. Right now, he is unnaturally trapped in the quirky left field at Fenway. The move should significantly bolster Carl's confidence and allow him to relax and (hopefully) flourish at the plate. For his part, Cespedes is a legitimate stud—his 2011 hitting line was .333/.424/.667. He hit 33 home runs and knocked in 99 RBIs playing in just 90 games. He also stole 11 bases. According to ESPN's Gordon Edes, Cespedes will command a contract in the $60 million range. He could be available within the next week or so. BenCher, convince us that this off-season inertia is purposeful. Sign this kid ASAP!
