Not unlike a 15-year old taking his first date to the Prom, Bobby Valentine seemed initially and uncharacteristically nervous in his introductory press conference. Once he settled down and began answering reporters' questions, he was more comfortable and more the guy we expected to see. He was clearly excited to be here and even joked about his Carl Crawford and Josh Beckett criticisms on ESPN. Not surprisingly, Dan Shaughnessy asked the question we all wanted to ask of BenCher, essentially: "Was this guy your first choice?" Cherington said—once he had a chance to talk to Bobby in early November and vett him through Baseball Operations—he was the GM's choice. Not sure we're buying it.
