UPDATE: Verlander Wins AL MVP; Jacoby finishes 2nd.
Sure, when we say Jacoby Ellsbury should be the AL MVP, it might look a little provincial. But, numbers don't lie. Ellsbury was ranked first in total bases (364) and extra base hits (83). He was ranked second in hits (212) and third in runs (119) and runs created (139). He placed fourth in stolen bases (39) and was in the top five in average (.329), home runs (32), and OPS (.928). And, for the more geeky among you, Ellsbury lead the league in 'Wins Above Replacement' (WAR) with 9.4—ahead of Bautista's 8.3. Also, he played in 158 games—Verlander, as great as he was, played in a grand total of 34. Jacoby should win today at 2 PM.
