Bud Selig announced today that MLB will add two new Wild Card teams (one in each league)—and the change could come as early as the 2012 season. Selig stated that a one-game playoff for the two Wild Cards would—more than likely—determine which team moves on. If the new format were in effect for 2011, the Red Sox would have met the Rays in just such a one-game playoff. Get ready for spending Thanksgiving Day watching Game 7 of the World Series. And, just think, Theo, Tito, Pap, Dr. Gil, Curt Young et. al. could still be here!
