exercised their 2012 team option and signed Marco Scutaro to a $6 million deal. The 36-year old SS had a $3 million player option that he likely would have eschewed for a run at free agency. Scutaro did have a more than decent 2011—hitting .299—but one has to wonder if there weren't better, younger, cheaper options out there to hold the fort until Iglesias is ready. Hey, that's why Lucchin....er....Cherington gets the big bucks.
