Multiple reports surfaced on Tuesday night indicating that the Chicago Cubs have asked the Red Sox for permission to speak with Theo Epstein about their vacant GM position. The Red Sox can either deny permission or grant it with some form of compensation (WEEI's Gerry Callahan is cleverly suggesting that the compensation should be unloading Lackey on Chicago).
We at FenwayNation feel that losing Theo would be a huge mistake by the NOG. He is the only actual local connection to the fan base. He was the main reason we have two rings to celebrate—he didn't just become dumb in September. Lucchino is from Pittsburgh, Baltimore and San Diego; Werner is all Hollywood and Roseanne; and God knows what planet John Henry is from. Theo's from Brookline. 'Nuf Ced.
Granted, he has made several free agent blunders—but all big money GMs are prone to that. Keep Theo and let him fix this mess.
