In the wake of last night's final capitulation, we were amused by the comments of three individuals—eerily all from the Greater Medfield, Massachusetts area.
The first of these is our fellow FN Editor, Henry Kanter. He suggested—in a barely cogent late-night voice mail—that we revert to the strategy of the great Eddie Andelman and simply refer to the Boston Baseball Team as 'Generalissimo Chiang Kai-shek' (as Eddie did with former Sox manager Don Zimmer).
Second, the legendary Curt Schilling opined on WEEI's Dennis & Callahan Morning Show that we can absolutely apply the "C" word to this team (it rhymes with "Coke").
And lastly, a caller to very same radio program from Medfield (I've forgotten his first name) suggested that this Red Sox squad looked like "25 Calvin Schiraldis"—a full roster of deers in the headlights. Indeed.
But let's put all the negativity aside and wish Generalissimo Chiang Kai-shek all the best in the final two (or three) games.
