Talk about your brilliant strategy! Don't play and/or lose a game and inch closer to the post-season. Last night, the Rays continued their own September Swoon, losing to the Jays, 5-1. That pushed the Red Sox "lead" in the Wild Card to 2.5 games. Boston's "Magic Number" to clinch is just 4. So, for a team with some character, winning 4 of the last 6 would not be a big challenge—they would control there own destiny. But, this is the 2011 Red Sox.
Unfortunately, Lester and Beckett can only pitch once each in that span, so they may yet miss out on the tournament. Has there ever been a more deserving non-participant?
