This was a night of mixed emotions at Fenway. Blessed with a prime seat at the Fens, your humble scribe was in the midst of musing about a no-no by Jon Lester. Then, in the top of the 5th, there was Matt Albers on the hill. Lester suffered a lat strain on his left side and his status is unknown. Losing Lester for any significant amount of time would be devastating to this team—already shaky in the rotation beyond Beckett.
The bullpen once again came through (with the exception of Jonathan Papelbon) to keep the Jays at Bay (did that sound a little too much like Jason Bay?) To end the game, Darnell McDonald (he of the .125 batting average) gunned down DH Edwin Encarnación at the plate on a single to left—with Player of the Game Jason Varitek blocking the plate brilliantly for the final out. Sox win 3-2.
Win the game. Possibly lose Lester. The agony of victory.
